| The 6th Correspondances d’Eastman Literary Festival promises |
(Eastman, April 7th, 2008) – From August 7 to 10, 2008, in Eastman’s pastoral setting, the literary arts celebration’s 6th edition offers an invitation for travel. Visitors, writers and artists will explore the multiple facets of this universal theme which has flowed onto the pages of literature since its first steps. The words of the journey will favour a journey of words through wonderful encounters with Canadian authors.
Who has not yet closed a book and had the impression of making a most beautiful journey, a blessed moment where new acquired images still linger on our minds like a new perspective on life ? It is in this mindset that the Correspondances d’Eastman events’ literary cafés, writing workshops and shows will unfold this year. Whether the subject is the northern call, great traveling authors, world trekkers, adventurers, extraordinary trips of self-identity or even those in childhood country, the various activities will undoubtedly quench the quest of the great beyond and its discoveries. The joy of writing and reading will gather numerous artists, artisans, and writers such as François Barcelo, Myriam Beaudoin, Deni Yvan Béchart, Jean Désy, Hugues Dionne, Ariane Émond, Nicole Fontaine, Jean Fugère, Louis Hamelin, Bruno Hébert, Naïm Kattan, Dany Laferrière, Danièle Laurin, Annick Léger, Tristan Malavoy-Racine, Marie-Ève Martel, Lili Maxime, Denise Neveu, Gilles Pellerin, Michèle Plomer, Monique Proulx, Francine Ruel, and many others. This year they will gather on the theme of “travel” and will honour, amongst others, traveling authors that will share magical journeys, the chance to escape routine through dreams and discovery (Nicolas Bouvier, Alexandra David-Néel, Alain Grandbois, Simone de Beauvoir, Ella Maillart, Jacques Hébert, Pierre Perrault…). Host and author Danièle Bombardier will take the stage as spokesperson with Les Correspondances in this journey to the land of letters. Mrs. Bombardier is a CBC-French trained TV-journalist, where she worked for 12 years and then became a television host. She created and hosted one of most outstanding literary television shows called “Plaisir de lire” (The pleasure of reading). After skipping out of public service for a few years during which she work as a director for l'Agence Québec Wallonie Bruxelles for youth, today she is a journalist, scriptwriter and continues her hosting career on various platforms. She is on the Correspondances d’Eastman Society’s board of directors since January 2007, and Danièle Bombardier invites the public to join the journey. “What better guide to initiate travelling than the author and their work. Because literature is in itself a journey, an invitation to escape and follow with grace, naivety and curiosity those that lead us to the heart of exotic or intimate mysteries where we find ourselves or where we grow.” From the Letter to the Postcard The Correspondances d’Eastman entertainment program will be revealed in a few weeks simultaneously with all details concerning literary shows. With a theme such as travel, it is safe to bet that the postcard will be featured this year as much as the letter! Till then, it is possible to get your tickets for the literary cafés where the program has been published online since April 15th. Many packages are equally offered on the Correspondances d’Eastman website at www.lescorrespondances.ca. No passports needed for a enchanting getaway in the charming village of Eastman ! Take advantage of your cultural stay to discover one of the trendiest Quebec destinations which is favoured by trekkers and tourists alike. The 6th Correspondances d’Eastman Literary festival is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. They are presented in collaboration with many partners and literary friends such as the event’s main sponsor, Quebecor Inc, Canada Post, Lac-Memphrémagog’s Caisse Desjardins, Hydro-Quebec, Hurtubise Editions HMH, the Eastman Municipality as well as the Théâtre La Marjolaine, where authors’ meetings take place.
